Our centre prides itself as having the capability to offer our patients a complete selection of vision correction procedures that can be customized to their unique vision and provide the best possible outcome.
One popular option our center provides is the Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) for the treatment of moderate to high degrees of myopia (nearsightedness).
This very thin, soft, flexible lens made of Collamer (an advanced lens material that is highly biocompatible) is implanted in the eye behind the iris and in front of the natural lens. The Visian ICL is microscopically thin and is easily inserted into the eye through a small incision that doesn’t require sutures.
The lens acts as an internal contact lens, providing immediate and permanent vision correction. It is best suited for people with moderate to severe myopia or nearsightedness and is a wonderful alternative to LASIK for these people, often producing visual results that are even better than traditional glasses or contacts.
The lens is made out of collagen, a naturally occurring protein, so it works in harmony with the eye. Even so, if there are any problems, the lens can be easily removed at any time, with little side effects.
There is no maintenance associated with the lens, and it is intended to remain in place as long as you are satisfied with your vision. If at any point your vision changes or you wish to have them removed, it can be done easily and without compromising your vision whatsoever.
It is a day care procedure and it only takes 5 to 10 minutes. During the procedure, your eyes will be numbed with anesthetic eye drops. Your surgeon will make a microscopic, self-sealing incision into your eye, and the lens will be injected into place. There is little, if any discomfort and the results are immediate.
