Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, is an inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva, which is the clear, thin membrane that covers the white part of the eye (sclera) and lines the inside of the eyelid. It can affect one or both eyes and is characterized by redness, itching, tearing, and discharge from the eye.
Causes of Pink Eye:
Viral Conjunctivitis: Spread through coughing, sneezing, or contact with contaminated surfaces.
Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Caused by bacteria and may cause significant discharge.
Allergic Conjunctivitis: It happens because of allergens like pollen, dust mites, or pet fur.
Irritant Conjunctivitis: This is mainly caused by the substances like smoke, chlorine in swimming pools, or shampoos.
