Dr. A. Saibaba Goud

Dr. A. Saibaba Goud, a trailblazer in ophthalmology, holds the distinction of being India’s first Doctorate in Community Ophthalmology. His pioneering contributions to the field are complemented by his profound humanitarian efforts, notably through the establishment of the Devnar School for the Blind. This institution has transformed the lives of hundreds of visually impaired children, providing them with education, skills, and the confidence to contribute meaningfully to society.

 

Dr. Goud earned his MS in Ophthalmology from Osmania University, furthering his expertise and commitment to eye care. In February 1988, he completed his Ph.D. in Ophthalmology, becoming the first person in India to receive a Doctorate in Community Ophthalmology. His academic and professional journey is marked by significant leadership roles, including his tenure as the Medical Superintendent of the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Hyderabad. Additionally, Dr. Goud has served as Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, where he has influenced countless medical students and professionals.

 

Under Dr. Goud’s visionary leadership, the Devnar School for the Blind has not only provided basic education but also vocational training, fostering independence and self-reliance among its students. The school offers a range of programs, including Braille literacy, computer training, and music education, ensuring that students are well-equipped for diverse career paths. Dr. Goud’s commitment to the cause of the visually impaired extends beyond education; he has been instrumental in organizing numerous eye camps and awareness programs across India, addressing preventable blindness and promoting eye health.
